Wheat Bread in Dubai: What Whole Wheat, Whole Grain or Multigrain Mean

Wheat bread only tells you the flour is wheat. What whole wheat, wholemeal, whole grain, multigrain and seeded mean on a label, and where each of our loaves sits.

Wheat bread in Dubai is any bread made from wheat flour, and the word on its own does not tell you whether the bran and germ are still in it: for that, the label has to say whole wheat, wholemeal or whole grain. We bake one loaf described as wholemeal, the Multi-Seed Whole Wheat Toast Bread at 32 AED; the Multi-Seed Sourdough Loaf at 28 AED is seeded but not described as wholemeal, and the White Toast Bread at 10 AED is a white wheat loaf. All three are baked to order in Dubai Silicon Oasis, and delivery across Dubai is 20 AED below 150 AED and free from 150 AED.

What does wheat bread actually mean?

Wheat bread means bread made with wheat flour, and nothing more. White flour is wheat flour too, so a soft white sandwich loaf is a wheat bread: the word tells you which grain was milled, not how much of it was kept.

The Whole Grains Council's guide to identifying whole grain products, which we checked on 11 October 2026, sorts the words on a bread label into three groups:

  • Whole grain: "whole wheat", "whole grain" followed by the name of a grain, "whole" followed by another grain, and "stoneground whole" followed by the grain.
  • Uncertain: among others, "wheat", "stoneground", "multigrain", "semolina" and "durum wheat". These words describe the contents accurately, but part of the grain may be missing.
  • Never whole grain: among others, "wheat flour", "enriched flour", "bran" and "wheat germ".

The uncertain words also turn up on genuine whole grain foods, so the council's advice is to look for the word whole. Its guide is a way of reading a label, not a statement of UAE labelling rules.

What is the difference between whole wheat, wholemeal and whole grain?

Whole wheat and wholemeal mean the same thing, wheat milled with the whole kernel kept (wholemeal is simply the British name), while whole grain is the wider term for any grain kept whole.

A wheat kernel has three parts:

  • Bran: the layered outer skin of the kernel.
  • Germ: the embryo, the part that could grow into a new plant.
  • Endosperm: the germ's starchy food supply, and by far the largest part. White flour is milled from the endosperm once the bran and germ have been taken out.

The council's definition of whole grains counts a grain as whole when all three parts are still present "in the same proportions as when the grain was growing in the fields". Whole wheat is that idea applied to wheat; whole grain can also mean oats, brown rice or another grain.

Keeping the bran changes how a dough behaves, and our multi-seed whole wheat toast guide explains what it does and how our wholemeal loaf is built around it. For fibre, our sourdough bread nutrition facts article sets out USDA reference values for white and whole-wheat bread; we have not lab-tested our own loaves.

Is multigrain bread whole grain?

Not necessarily: multigrain means the bread contains more than one grain, and the Whole Grains Council notes those grains may be whole, refined or a mix of both.

In our range, multi-grain bread appears in one place: the Multi-Grain Ham & Cheese Sandwich at 12 AED. Its seeds and cracked grains interrupt the crumb, so the bread is denser than white and holds a clean edge when cut. We do not sell it as a loaf, and we do not call it whole grain. Our guide to sandwiches in Dubai compares it with our other sandwich breads.

Is seeded bread the same as whole wheat?

No: seeds can go into a white dough as easily as a wholemeal one, so a crust covered in seeds tells you about the seeds, not the flour.

Our Multi-Seed Sourdough Loaf at 28 AED is a free-form sourdough carrying sunflower, pumpkin, flax, sesame and millet through the dough and on the crust, all five soaked and three of them toasted before mixing. Its description never calls it wholemeal, so neither do we; our seeded sourdough guide explains the seeds.

The Multi-Seed Whole Wheat Toast Bread at 32 AED is both seeded and wholemeal, with sunflower, flax, sesame and oats through the dough and on the crust. The two multi-seed loaves share sunflower, flax and sesame; only one is described as wholemeal.

Which of our loaves are wheat, whole wheat or seeded?

Only one of our loaves is described as wholemeal: the Multi-Seed Whole Wheat Toast Bread at 32 AED. Here is the range, with what our descriptions say about each dough, its crust and crumb, and how long it keeps:

  • Multi-Seed Whole Wheat Toast Bread, 32 AED. A wholemeal sandwich loaf; the seed mix and part of the wholemeal are soaked overnight. Baked in a lidded tin, so it is square, with a thin, soft crust and a tight, even crumb. About three days, sealed in a bag.
  • Multi-Seed Sourdough Loaf, 28 AED. Seeded, not described as wholemeal. Free-form, with a thick, chewy crust and a crumb shorter and tighter than our plain country loaf. Three good days and a fourth that toasts well.
  • White Toast Bread, 10 AED. A white sandwich loaf, baked in a tin, with a thin, pale gold crust and a fine, even crumb. Slice and freeze it beyond a couple of days.
  • Japanese Milk Bread Loaf, 18 AED. A tall tin loaf, cream-white inside, enriched with milk, egg and butter and built on tangzhong, a cooked flour paste; the crumb pulls apart in strands. Still soft on day three.
  • Brioche Toast Bread, 35 AED. An enriched loaf rich in butter, with eggs and milk replacing most of the water; the egg yolk turns the close, shreddable crumb yellow. Two to three days, tightly wrapped.
  • Multi-Grain Ham & Cheese Sandwich, 12 AED. Multi-grain bread with seeds and cracked grains, sold only as this sandwich, which goes into the fridge on arrival.

We do not publish what share of the toast loaf's flour is wholemeal, and we claim nothing beyond what its description says. The toast and buns collection shows the four toast loaves above, with our bagels, on one page.

Every bread here is made with wheat and contains gluten. Both multi-seed loaves carry sesame, the milk bread and the brioche are made with milk, egg and butter, and the sandwich has ham and cheese. Our kitchen handles wheat, gluten, eggs, dairy, nuts, peanuts, soy, sesame and seeds, and we cannot guarantee that any item is free from traces of these. If anyone has an allergy or intolerance, tell us before you order and we will tell you honestly whether we can serve them safely.

Which wheat bread should you buy for sandwiches or breakfast?

For wholemeal sandwiches and breakfasts through the week, buy the Multi-Seed Whole Wheat Toast Bread; for a mild everyday loaf, the White Toast Bread; and for cheese or soup at the table, the Multi-Seed Sourdough Loaf.

Our toast bread guide compares how the tin loaves brown, and our white toast bread guide explains what a soft white loaf is built to do. The 22 AED gap between the white loaf and the wholemeal one comes down to the seeds and the overnight soak, and our guide to bread prices in Dubai sets out what every loaf costs and why.

Three worked orders at our prices on 11 October 2026:

  • One wholemeal loaf: a Multi-Seed Whole Wheat Toast Bread is 32 AED, plus 20 AED delivery, so 52 AED.
  • One of each wheat loaf: a Multi-Seed Whole Wheat Toast Bread (32 AED), a Multi-Seed Sourdough Loaf (28 AED) and a White Toast Bread (10 AED) come to 70 AED, or 90 AED with delivery.
  • A bigger order: three Multi-Seed Whole Wheat Toast Breads (96 AED) and two Multi-Seed Sourdough Loaves (56 AED) come to 152 AED, so delivery is free.

Checkout offers four windows, each three hours long: tomorrow 7–10 am, tomorrow 3–6 pm, the day after tomorrow 7–10 am, and next Saturday 9 am–12 pm. There is no same-day delivery, and every order is baked for the day it is due. Our delivery page covers receiving the order.

How do you keep wholemeal and seeded bread in Dubai?

Keep both at room temperature and out of the fridge, where bread stales faster than on the counter: the wholemeal loaf sealed in a bag, the seeded sourdough cut side down on a board.

  • Multi-Seed Whole Wheat Toast Bread: at its best for about three days. Past that, slice it, freeze it in a sealed bag and toast the slices straight from frozen.
  • Multi-Seed Sourdough Loaf: after the first two days on the board, move it into a paper bag inside a cloth or a bread box; paper alone lets it dry and sealed plastic turns the crust to leather. By the fourth day, drop your toaster a setting or two, because the seeds on the crust are already toasted and colour faster than the crumb.

Our guide to storing bread in Dubai covers our other breads by type, from crusty sourdough to soft toast loaves.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between wheat bread and whole wheat bread?

Wheat bread only tells you the flour is wheat, and white flour is wheat flour too. Whole wheat, called wholemeal in British English, means the flour was milled from the whole kernel, with the bran, the germ and the endosperm all kept.

Is multigrain bread the same as whole grain bread?

Not necessarily. Multigrain means the bread contains more than one grain, and those grains can be whole, refined or a mix of both. Our multi-grain bread is sold only in the Multi-Grain Ham & Cheese Sandwich at 12 AED, and we do not call it whole grain.

Is your multi-seed whole wheat loaf made only with wholemeal flour?

We do not publish what share of its flour is wholemeal. Its description says it is a wholemeal sandwich loaf and that the seed mix and part of the wholemeal are soaked overnight before mixing, and we do not claim anything beyond that.

Does whole wheat bread have more fibre than white bread?

USDA reference entries list more fibre for whole-wheat bread than for white bread, and the figures are in our sourdough bread nutrition facts article. They are generic reference values, and we have not lab-tested our own loaves.

Which of your breads is whole grain?

None of our product descriptions uses the words whole grain. The only loaf described as wholemeal is the Multi-Seed Whole Wheat Toast Bread at 32 AED, and we do not publish what share of its flour is wholemeal. The Multi-Seed Sourdough Loaf and our multi-grain sandwich bread are seeded, and neither is described as wholemeal.
